The Walking Dead Season 2 - The Game: Episode 1

And I'm back!

[CONTAINS SPOILERS – Do not read any further if you haven’t played the game but plan to do it]

I also warn you about all them feels I’m going to express! I’m usually a bit more objective, but that’s just not possible with this game.

The Walking Dead Season 1 was an amazing experience that I probably won’t ever forget. The game showed me how serious life can be and how hard it is to make the right choices. It is my favorite game for a reason. Now, if you haven’t heard of the game, it is a zombie game, where you have to make decisions that will let you survive the game. Bad decisions will kill you. Good decisions will let you live. It’s as simple as that.

Instead of the usual first person shooter survival game, The Walking Dead created by Telltale focuses on the story more than the gameplay. If you’re looking for a shooter, this game may not be for you, but if you love a good story like I do, you will love this game. There’s not much gameplay in the game. The game is set up much like a movie. What makes this as game though, is the fact that YOU are making the choices of the characters – you decide their story.

Now on to what I was actually going to talk about. The Walking Dead season 2 - Episode 1: All That Remains came out yesterday, and because I had preordered it, I could install it as soon as it came out. When the download had finished, I went right into the game and played the first episode of this season. And boy, what an experience!

I’ve known for a while that Clementine would be the main character this time, but I didn’t really know how to react to the news. I might have felt a little bit split between feeling good or bad. I mean, Clementine has suffered so much and I just couldn’t bear to see her out there alone, but at the same time I liked the fact that I didn’t have to get attached to a whole new character all over again.

After clicking play, it took me about five minutes before I was already crying. I will just leave it at that to not spoil too much – but I’m starting to see the evil in the people who created this game. I don’t think I know any books, movies, etc. which are sadder than this game. And the fact that Clementine is now walking around casually with a gun in her hand really sets me off. That one hit me hard. I don’t know what it is, but seeing a child having to carry a weapon like that is really not something I ever want to experience in real life.

And that’s not even everything. Clementine really has changed. That’s not negative, of course, but she’s become so mature that it’s almost hard to handle. Her values have changed. She’s so young, but finding a big box of toys only makes her throw it away and say: “Mmph. Nothing edible.” I just don’t see much of a child in her anymore.

 

Just when I think the thought that maybe the creators aren’t that heartless after all by letting Clementine have a dog as her friend so she isn’t alone, the freaking dog attacks her and makes her kill it (or I kind of made her kill it – but only because it was suffering!). That friendship was ruined in a time span of about ten minutes. That is what I call evil. Just when you get attached, you have to let go again.

To not only have sad things in this rant of mine, I must admit I love when Clementine uses sarcasm. I caught myself laughing out loud several times over her talking to herself. I actually think one of the things I love the most about these games is the sarcastic comments throughout the game.

Creepy, but awesome Podcasts

And I'm back!

A few days ago, Sofie (Thursday) sent a link to me directing me to The Night Vale Podcast also known as “Welcome to Night Vale”. The podcast is produced by Commonplace Books, and was created by former Something Awful writer Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor. The Podcast was created last year and has become very popular on social networks in the summer of 2013. The podcast is set up as a fictive community radio, where you will listen to local news, commercials and announcements of the town Night Vale.

I haven’t listened to too much of the podcast episodes, because the podcast isn’t exactly my taste, knowing that none of it is actually real. But I still felt like mentioning it here because, first of all, it is incredibly popular, and second of all, it lead me inspire to find other podcasts. And those are the ones I will be talking about the rest of today’s feature.

A podcast that I find very entertaining is the podcast “The Last Podcast on the Left” featured on the website CaveComedyRadio. The podcast consists of three men, Ben Kissel, Henry Zebrowski and Marcus Parks who discusses various topics concerning horror and the like. They talk about a lot of things, including serial killers, ghosts, war crimes, religion, hauntings and creepypastas.

Ever felt like listening to people talking without using too much of your brain to concentrate on difficult subjects,” The Last Podcast to The Left” might be something for you. The guys are happy and outgoing, and while they discuss serious topics, they do it in a funny and entertaining way so you won’t be bored listening to it. Be ready for some bad jokes, swearing and creepy and scary facts, and I hope you will go to the CaveComedyRadio website to check the podcast out.

Another podcast that I found and simply can’t get enough of is “The Nosleep Podcast” featuring stories from the Nosleep forums on Reddit.com. After Reddit.com member Matt Hansen proposed the idea of a podcast introducing different stories from the forums, the idea was accepted in 2011. The host and producer of the podcast is the deep-voiced David Cummings, and the stories are read by all kinds of people and all the episodes have some nice soundtracks which fits the stories well.

As you might already know, I am a sucker for creepypastas, and what better way, for a lazy person like me, is there to find creepypastas than a podcast, where people find the best for you and even read them aloud. You don’t need to research the internet for creepypastas, and you don’t even have to read them yourself. Talk about killing two birds with one stone! Ohh, lazy me!

Well, the podcast is perfect if you’re looking for some really good and really creepy creepypastas, and some might even be so good that you’d want to support some of the authors. After listening to the podcast, I realized that a guy named Dathan AuerBach (also known as 1000Vultures) had written a creepypasta series called “Penpal” featuring six stories on the Nosleep forums. I can’t exactly explain what I love about the stories, but there is definitely something very eerie and maybe a bit epic about the stories that are about a boy (supposedly the author himself) and his life from kindergarten to the teenage years where some really creepy things happened.
I was curious and found out that there had been made a Kickstarter for the series to make it into an actual book, and yesterday I bought the book in paperback, and am now looking very much forward to receiving it next month.

I apologise many times for the four day late post from me on Funny little features. I have been to Norway visiting a friend of mine, and I only just came home yesterday which is the reason for the missing post.
As I haven't actually been able to find some really good stuff to talk about, I will be continuing my Creepypasta list which makes this the second part!

Because of how long the stories were in the last Creepypasta Recommended post, I had some issues which made it impossible to actually read them, and it took me quite a while to fix the problem. Therefore the creepypastas will be shorter in this post so I won't have to do everthing over again as I did last time - and shorter stories means that lazy people can read them too ;)

'Sup!

Yesterday i went on a gamesite to play a coop flash game with my cousin, and to the right in the game recommendations was a game that I hold very dear to my heart. If I have any sort of brain damage or the kind, it is most definitely because of that game.
So of course I had to play a bit of the game after I was done playing with my cousin - and today I have also been playing for some time.

 

The game is a simple flash runner game with the fitting name "Run", where you have to control a little cute grey alien-ish figure. You use the left and right keys to control your movement and use space to jump - as it is in most other flash games. In the game you pretty much have to keep yourself on the platforms without falling off which is indeed very simple. The cool twist in the game is that you can turn the 'screen' around by walking to one of the sides which gives off this 3-dimensional feeling.

I used to play this game a while back, 3-4 years ago, and I found it very hard, but at the same time fun. I used to play it for hours everyday, so it should be fair to say that I was quite the addict. As I played it today, I didn't find it that hard - I made it to level 40 in a short amount of time. I probably still got it in me from all those hours of practise years ago ;)
I have looked through the comments though, and there are various opinions on the difficulty of the game, but if I have to say anything, it is that even though a level can be hard, it isn't impossible. There are routes that are easier than others, and after a few tries on a level, you will surely be able to figure out a good route.

I agree with many other players of the game that the respawn time is almost 'God-ish', since there is no retry screen, no long pause or anything after you fall off and die. You just respawn where the level starts, and if you're not ready, the little guy will just fall off the edge, and *plop* he's back at the beginning, and you can start again! Fast respawn time everyone!
The game isn't too fancy, as I have mentioned before, it is very simple. But to me that simpleness is what I like about the games - yes at some websites there are upgrades, but if you keep away from registering on any websites, you will pretty much be seeing nothing but a grey guy jumping on colorful platforms.

As I googled the game, I found out that there has been made a "Run 2" game, where you can choose between two kind of 'aliens' - the runner and the skater, and the sequal of the game really took a hold of the 3-dimensional look. I can't review the game much though, since I haven't actually played that much of it.

Mockumentaries

'Ello

So, I was looking through my ”Awesome stuff” playlist on YouTube, which consists of a few mockumentaries I watched a year or two ago. In short a mockumentary is a movie, television show or the like in which fictional events are shown and presented as a documentary. It is said to be mostly used for comedic or historic shows, but in the last couple of years they have become very popular in the horror genre.
Which, to me, makes totally sense, since the documentary styled movies which are presenting nothing but pure scary fiction, suddenly seems way more realistic to the point where you might question the fact that it really is nothing but fiction.

Well, as I was saying, I found some mockumentaries and skipped through one of them to check out the cool and scary parts that I remembered was in it, and as perfect as it could be, an annotation was added by the makers of the film, mentioning their other films. Thank god it is summer, because I just had to check out some of the other videos by the same people – and if it was winter, it had been really dark out, and that would only end one way: me shitting bricks! Sorry for the language!

Now it’s probably time to mention the actual name of the film makers. They are called EnterViral on YouTube, and the movies I just watched is called Covet and The Asylum, and was posted on YouTube in 2012.

Up till now, I have watched three of their movies, all of them lasting about 45 minutes, so they are not that long, but it is time enough to give you a few scares! And they are quite enjoyable, so unless you literally die from watching horror movies (yes, I’m thinking of you Becca) then watch these short mockumentaries.

The three movies from EnterViral that I’ve watched so far are:

The Rake (November 2011)

Basically this movie revolves around three guys who as stupid as it sounds (yes, I’m being subjective) decides that it’s an oh so great idea to go camping in some unknown woods, without bringing anything that would make it possible to communicate with the world – on purpose. First of all, woods are scary at night just being, you know, woods, but as the title insinuates, there is something else in the woods which makes life miserable for the three guys. The Rake lives in those woods, and you do not want to meet the Rake. I can assure you of that.

Covet (January 2012)

This movie is pretty hard to explain what’s about, but it starts out with the guy John living in his new house, and he knows that somebody has been stealing drinks from his fridge in the garage. After about a week of it going on every night, he sets up at security camera to check out who has been stealing from him. The videos show a man or creature crawling naked inside the garage, stealing and leaving again. John starts to research on the former owners of the house and looks into why the house haven’t been sold for fifteen years, and he has some very interesting discovers.

The Asylum (July 2012)

The Asylum is about three so-called historians who are curious about an old and closed off Asylum which has tunnels underneath it which are supposedly not locked off. They explore the tunnels, but they find out that they are not the only ones down there, and are somewhat followed by this person. There’s a minor error in this movie in the end of it which made it very hard for me to take the rest of the movie serious, but hopefully others won’t feel the same way.

What all of these movies have in common, aside from being mockumentaries, is the fact that they have all ended in the characters either disappearing or dying mysteriously where the cameras have later been found, and it is also the same actors in all three movies. But since they are short, and you don’t really get to see much of the characters (because they are holding the camera filming), it doesn’t make them bad.

 I have watched many other mockumentaries and these are only the few I have seen made by EnterViral, and I may or may not mention them in later posts in the future!

I won’t even mention the name of my favorite series in the whole wide world here, just because it would be disrespectful only to mention it in a tiny passage of the entire post. It needs at least a whole post for itself! You might hear about it someday.

Creepypasta Recommended #2

Hi everyone

I haven't had an awfully lot of time today which should conclude the late post!
But here it is - a VERY short feature from me to you! Enjoy it.

Yestersday - as in Tuesday, I had some time to experience the joyness of creepypasta stories - oh what joy, what joy! I read quite a lot of them, found on the 4chan /x/ Paranormal board, and I thought: since I don't have anything unbelievably interesting to write about today, why not show you a few of the creepypastas that I read?
So, that will be exactly what I am going to do! Here's three creepypasta stories of the ones that I read, which I found somewhat interesting:


 

 

 



Yes, they are long - but I assure you: Good stuff always takes awhile, therefore you have longer time enjoying them! All three have been picked out of the ones I read yesterday, so they are by far my favorites - but I liked them anyways, or else there would be no reason to post them here.

 

Just a little reminder: Do not read too many creepypastas a day - if you have to read a lot, be sure to start in the morning, and refrain from reading while it's dark or about to be dark. If you feel the CHILLS, stop reading! I'm experienced - I know what I'm talking about! ;)

Ghost Party

Hello!

Here is just a quick feature from me today. I found a cute little indie game which I decided to try out. The game is called “Ghost Party” and is an RPG styled game, and I found the game randomly on an indie games website.

The game is about a lonely ghost in a big house and one of the ghost’s favorite hobbies is to check out the people who live in the house. But murders start happening in the house, and it is the ghost’s job to find the killer.

At first I wasn’t really sure what to think about the game as I was just walking, or rather floating, around in the house and clicking on everyone and everything to either hear some random stuff or to receive random stuff. But then the first person died and turned into a ghost, and I realized that I was the one who had to catch the killer. The game finally made sense to me.

It’s pretty much a puzzle game. The people or flying bats asks for things and you have to find them for them to get further into the case and in the end solve it. The game had a very cute design, and if you read some of the things it says when you click on furniture, people, etc. then you will see that it is actually a quite funny game. The ending does seem kind of rushed though which makes me sad, but it seems like there are three possible endings to get!

Well, if you don’t think a ghost wearing fanny pack and bats paying the house bills are awesome, then I’m not so sure if you’re even human. So download the game! It takes about… 3 seconds to download, and the game is totally free!

Herobrine's Mansion

Hi guys!

I finally have my long-awaited holiday, which means that I got a lot of time on my hands. So I have been playing the ever-so-popular game Minecraft for a couple of days. You have no idea how huge my love for that game is. It’s so simple but then again so huge, beautiful and adventurous. Here's a short post about a map I tried out!

Well, my friend Angie and I were playing Minecraft together, and he mentioned a map called “Herobrine’s Mansion” by Hypixel, which I soon downloaded to my computer.

I tried it out in single player on easy mode, which I found to be.. well.. extremely lonely somehow. And very hard! There are way too many enemies for one person to handle, and the enormous world made me feel very tiny and very alone. But then Angie saved me by agreeing to play it with me, so I set up a server for us to play on, and we began our adventures.

The game took us about 1-2 hours to finish and consisted of six pretty cool boss fights and of course many fights against custom made monsters around the map. The map was unbelievably amazing and since I didn’t feel so alone anymore the game experience was perfect.

Herobrine's Mansion

 

It is a very well-made map where you do quests around and inside a big mansion, where you in the end will meet Herobrine – a guy I find very scary – and hopefully beat him!

The map looks great, and you can easily see that a lot of time has been put into the making of it.

The map can be played in both single player mode and multiplayer mode, but I really recommend playing “Herobrine’s Mansion” with a good friend of yours!

 

If you ever feel like playing "Herobrine's Mansion", here's a little hint for you: Some zombies may be very small - but those are your worst enemy and you should not take them lightly!

Persona 4

Hello!

Don’t you always feel a bit out of place when you have just finished a book, movie, game etc? I certainly do. You want to do something else, but you just can’t seem to start on something completely new.

As I told you last week, I finished playing Bioshock Infinite (find the post here), and since then I’ve basically tried to find out everything about the game – obsessions are healthy, you know!

But there is a point, where you just can’t dig up any more of the good stuff, so I wondered what to do next. I concluded that a new game wouldn’t do much good for me, so I put my computer on snooze, found my extra cable for my headphones and then plugged it into my television.

It was PlayStation 2 time! Since I started playing computer games, my ps2 has been pretty lonely, but it was time to turn it on once again.

Persona 4: Golden

For the last three days I have been playing the ps2 game: Persona 4 – also called Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4. The game is published by the Japanese computer and video game developer: Atlus, and it was released in 2008. The game has been renewed as a “Golden” version, and is sold as Persona 4: Golden in the stores right now. I don’t own the console for that though, so I am not able to try it out.

 

As for the game itself; it’s a nice blend between simulation, role-playing and strategy, where you go to school, develop your social links and help people on small quests, and at the same time you find clues, save your friends and fight evil shadows.

The story circles around a small group of friends (which grows bigger throughout the game), and each of them has their own persona – their true selves whom they use to fight against shadows with. They all live in a small town called Inaba, where murders have been happening, and it is up to this group to make sure no other person dies. The game has a time limit of one year, where you have to improve the lives of yourself and your friends.

Persona 4

In combat you attack the enemy by turn, and when all team members have had their turn, it is the shadow’s turn to attack. The game uses the Press Turn System where player and enemy can take advantage of each other’s weaknesses, and you fight using either physical or magical attacks.

The great thing about the game is that you can’t just expect to be good in combat just by leveling up. You have to improve your relationships with your friends to get benefits in battle and to be able to create some pretty awesome personas.

 

To be honest I still haven’t finished the game – which is a fail from my side, but I still love the game very much, and I like the fact that I can play it and experience many surprises in the story – so yeah, I don’t know how the game  will end yet.

All in all, the game has a great plot, lovely characters, nice soundtrack (which is included on a CD when you buy the game) and a great idea for the gameplay!

A little hint of the game:

 

If you look at a turned off television exactly at midnight, while it is raining – your soul mate will appear on your screen.

 

What I have learned throughout all of the years I have owned the game though, is that it NEVER rains at midnight in real life!

Bioshock Infinite

Hello out there!

For more than a week, school hasn’t been very generous, not at all actually. So how come I can still sit in front of my computer with a smile on my face?  Let me tell you: Games! And not just any kind of game, but the newly released and long-awaited game: Bioshock Infinite!

Bioshock Infinite

 

Bioshock Infinite was released on March 26 in 2013, about a month ago, but it was already announced to be made on August 12 in 2010 – long-awaited I said! Bioshock Infinite is the third game in the Bioshock series, but isn’t much like the two other games regarding setting and theme.

I haven’t played the two other Bioshock games, since I have judged them to be too scary and dark – even though I usually like scary stuff. The difference in the new game is that it’s so – bright! It’s so colorful and has actual people in it – monsters, mutants etc scares me to death!

As I don’t want to spoil anything about the game, I can’t really tell you much – But it’s basically about the handsome man Booker Dewitt (voiced by Troy Baker) who has a debt to pay, but was told that the debt would be erased if he got them the girl Elizabeth (voiced by Courtnee Draper) who is imprisoned in a tower in the city in the sky, Columbia.

From what I know Bioshock Infinite has got a similar concept and gameplay as the other two games, but since I haven’t played them, I can’t know for sure. What I do know is, that the game is utterly amazing! It has one of the best storylines I have seen in a long time, the characters’ personalities, looks and actions are so original and when the characters interact with each other, it makes your heart flutter, and what surprised me most about the game – is how incredibly beautiful the sceneries are in the game.

All in all, Bioshock Infinite was a fantastic experience, and this will not be my last time playing it at all! -  And to all of you out there, who haven’t played it yet: Buy it, play it and enjoy it! Because it’s one hell of a good time you’ll have!

Creepypasta Recommended #1 - Technology

Do you love the technology? Your television, computer and phone? It did something good to the world, didn’t it? Oh, what wonders have come out of it! Everything we see and hear today has probably come in touch with technology at one point.

But have you ever thought of the consequences of these lovely wonders? There’s always a bad side to the good. Always a negative to the positive. You may not see it in the beginning. You may not ever see it. But it is there. Lurking and ready to show whenever the timing is there.

 Wonders can so easily turn into horrors.

Horrors that will come and haunt you – till you feel that all sanity has left your body. It will come for you, and attack at your most vulnerable moments, draining your will to live.

 

This Wednesday will be a creepypasta day! Today I will be recommending a creepypasta I read last week! For those of you who don’t know what a creepypasta is:

A creepypasta is usually a short story containing scary elements with the point of disturbing or creeping out the reader – sometimes with a nice twist added in the end. It is not the typical horror stories, since they often deviate from the classical horror elements, and they can also be accompanied with video files or pictures.

Many of the popular creepypastas were posted on message boards all around the internet, having people forwarding them, and they were shared that way. Therefore it can sometimes be hard to tell whether the creepypasta is a true story or just pure fiction.

The other day I read a very popular creepypasta with many titles; “Ben Drowned”, “Majora’s Mask”, “Haunted Majora’s Mask cartridge” and the simple title “Ben”. I’m going to go with the last one.

The story “Ben” is told by a guy called Jadusable. When visiting different garage sales, he stumbles upon the Legend of Zelda game – Majora’s Mask.

He starts playing, and sees that another game has already been saved - with the name “Ben”. He starts up a new game and soon forgets about the other one. As he is playing, he feels like trying out a well-known glitch in the game which lets the player have one more day to complete a certain mission. Things do not go as he had expected though, and the game starts acting weird, having some really creepy glitches.

Jadusable keeps playing – and as more disturbing stuff appears - he gets more and more terrified by the game. The game is soon known to be “haunted” by a boy called Ben who drowned and died – and Ben haunts Jadusable both through the game and computer creating havoc in Jadusable’s life.

The story is very long – I spent most of my day reading it, but since it caught my attention right away and kept hold on me till the end, it could have much longer for what I care. You might be thinking; the story is about a Legend of Zelda game? Is that going to be scary at all? And to answer that; Well, you may or may not have played the Legend of Zelda game Majora’s Mask, and may or may not have found it interesting when playing it.

As for myself, I have never played any kind of Legend of Zelda game (which is probably bad upbringing, but oh well) and I found this story terrifying! I had problems sleeping after reading it, and my paranoia went right to the top, making me jump at every little sound and having me observe every movement made by my very still furniture and non-living stuff.

It might just be me, but the creepypasta must be so popular for a reason, right?
As if the written description of the stuff that happened in the game wasn’t enough, our so-called Jadusable even posted videos of the game play showing everything exactly as it was described.




“Ben” is a great example of how technology can turn out to be something horrifying and feared. The boy Ben chooses to act like a virus in Jadusable’s computer – watching everything Jadusable does, deleting posts on the internet, and maybe even writing some itself. Who knows – maybe it was even Ben who made this whole story up?

Even though the story may not be real – it still makes you rethink how much you trust the technology in this world. You might just be the next victim.
