What to eat and drink when you're hung over

The summer is approaching fast, and I don’t know about you, but for me that means no school and lots of alcohol. And while being drunk is fun, freeing and festive, hangovers are not. Here I have collected some of the things you should eat or drink when you’re hung over and cuddles up under a mountain of blankets – enjoy!

GOOD DRINKS:

Water: You already knew that one, didn’t you. If you’re not too drunk, drink a glass of water before bed, that will balance out your body’s fluid balance. If you’re too pissed to do that, drink a large glass of water when you wake up. Water helps your body hydrate. So extra thumbs up to water!

Fruit juice: When having hangovers your blood sugar levels will be quite low and that might contribute to your headache. Fruit juice contains natural sugar (if you buy the right kind, that is!) and will give your body the kick it needs and it may even help to boost the metabolism so your body can get rid of the nasty chemicals faster. It also hydrates your body and contains vitamins.

Tea: Tea, what the hell can’t it do?! Tea is a wonderdrink, so of course it’s good for hangovers. Especially ginger or peppermint tea will work wonders for your pounding head.

Pickle juice
: Nasty? Yes. Have I ever tried it? No. Does it work? Probably? But if you look upon this advice scientifically, it actually makes sense. Pickle juice contains vinegar, salt and water, which can all help rehydrate and replenish sodium levels. You can drink some before you hit the city and some the morning after. BONUS: You can actually get it as an ice pop ...

GOOD FOOD:
I know, you think your body is craving a big, fat slice of greasy pizza or a burger. But actually, what your body needs is healthy stuff – all the things you don’t feel like eating but should.

Bananas: Bananas are loaded with potassium, which gets flushed out with the water when the alcohol dehydrates your body. Not enough potassium can make you feel nauseous and tired – sounds familiar? Other potassium-loaded foods are spinach and kiwi.

Eggs: Eggs are super good for you, hung over or not. They contain a butt load of protein that will stabilize the blood sugar levels, and also distribute to the lever functions. Go egg!

Crackers and honey: Sounds odd? It actually isn’t. Honey is full of antioxidants and fructose in a concentrated form, which will flush out the remaining toxic chemicals faster. The cracker doesn’t really have a function on its own – it’s just there to guide the honey down.

Noodles: It’s not exactly healthy, but noodles contain a lot of sodium, something your body is lacking after a wild night out. Also, water.

Vegetables: Most vegetables contain cysteine, which gives the lever a boost – much needed I may add.

Ginger: Ginger is a well-known cure for nausea and settling an upset stomach – AKA great for hangovers. I’m not saying you should begin eating raw ginger slices – that’s just not pleasant -but a slice of in your tea or some in a smoothie will do wonders. Ginger biscuits will also do the job!

Watermelon: Tons of water and vitamins – just what your body needs. Watermelon is also high in fructose.

I hope you will find this useful and that you’ll all have a fantastic summer!

Laura

Life is a bitch

Hey there everyone! I’ve been super busy with little to no time on my hands, therefore this feature is very short (very, very, very short), because I simply did not have the time, nor the energy to think of something clever and eloquent to talk about since a lot of stuff is going on in my family right now and school is kicking my ass. I’m sorry but real life is more important than this blog after all J.
I really am empty for ideas and I have no idea what to talk about in this feature, so I’m just going to leave you with this video and the wish of being just as flexible. Seriously, this video is beyond awesome and cool and magnificent, so just … watch the fabulousness, you won’t regret it (also, I want to be able to do that with my legs)! Again, sorry for the shitty feature but hopefully I’ll be up with something much better next week.

Now I'm gonna go and wallow in self-pity because I hate my life.
Courage,
Laura

The Wonders of Makeup

I’m going to start this feature off with a little something about myself. For months now (and when I say months I mean years) I’ve been looking for the product, the product that would give my skin the flawless finish as seen in the magazines and alike. I have searched and tried different products and none of them gave me the result I wanted. I have finally figured out why. The reason (besides the fact that those photos are photo shopped and have gotten airbrushed the hell out of them) is that I have freckles. Bum. That’s the reason. I have tiny little dots of miscoloured skin all over my face, and I mean, all over. Sigh. I must come to terms with the fact that that is something I, unfortunately, cannot change. I will just never achieve the flawless complexion of those models. And as I’ve read in my make up-book How to look pretty, not plastered one must never try to conceal freckles, because then one will end up looking powdery and chalky. Trust me on this one, I’ve tried.

But generally, makeup is a pretty wonderful thing. It’s incredibly how a bit of colour here and there can completely chance one’s appearance. It is indescribably cool. I’ve worn makeup since I was about fourteen or fifteen years old and the reasons behind the cosmetic use are simple: My sister was wearing it, some of my friends were starting to wear it and I thought it was cool and pretty. I wear makeup pretty much every day. It doesn’t matter whether I’m wearing a really fancy dress with my high healed boots or wearing my most comfortable sweats with a hoodie, I will always, without fail, be wearing makeup. Why? Because it makes me feel pretty and I feel put together. So even though my clothes might not be up to scratch, at least my face doesn’t look like a ran-over rat or something that has slept under a rock for ages. Because that is how my face looks like without makeup and I’m not lying or exaggerating, I really do look like s***. My everyday makeup routine is nothing fancy: A bit of concealer, some foundation, a bit of compact powder and mascara – BOOM! Done. But seriously, to me, make up is kind of like art. Your appearance can change completely just by applying some products here and there.
Even though makeup can do all of that, makeup shouldn’t really be about changing your appearance or making you look picture perfect. To me, makeup is about enhancing and accentuating your best features! So if you have really big eyes, why not enhance them with eyeliner and mascara; if you have really prominent cheekbones, highlight them! Makeup is about making you look your best – be the best version of yourself that you can. I’m not saying you have to wear makeup – I’m all for the natural look which I can’t rock myself because of my very prominent and always present blush, but there is no reason why you should wear makeup if you don’t want to. I just think that if something makes you feel more confortable and confidant, then why not utilize it? If it makes you carry yourself taller, makes you feel attractive and on top of the world, like it does to me, then you should defiantly take advantage of it. Wearing makeup does not make you fake – just like not wearing makeup doesn’t make you sloppy. When it comes to makeup (and a lot of other things in life) I say ‘to each its own – that’s what makes the world go around’. But I will always be wearing makeup not matter what. Funny enough, its when I wear makeup I feel the greatest.

As always, courage,
Laura

PS Sorry for the late posting … I suck. Also, grammar.

Guilty Pleasures

Last week was all about getting to know the name behind Tuesday and today is somewhat similar – I will be sharing my guilty pleasures with all of you so I can feel a little better about myself.
Of course I have a lot of guilty pleasure (I mean, who doesn’t?) and most of them – yes, you guessed correctly – revolves around food. I cannot avoid the unavoidable any longer – let’s just get this over with.

MARSHMALLOWS
I have an intense love for marshmallows that goings way beyond anything even remotely reasonable and healthy. I just love marshmallows beyond any comprehension and I judge any and everyone who doesn’t like them. How can you not like marshmallows?! What’s not to like? They are absolutely wonderful – sweet, fluffy, gooey, spongy and just utter perfection. Especially of you give them a lovely brown crust so the exterior will be all crispy and chewy and the interior will be all soft and gooey and sticky and just ooze all over the place and make a mess. And sandwiched between two chocolate covered biscuits – what more could you possibly want?

ICE CREAM
Where do I start? How do I even begin to describe this frozen wonder in all its glory? How can anyone understand the immense love I carry for this amorous dairy product? How can I, a simple
human being, describe the amount of perfection ice cream carries? It is impossibly, dear readers. Impossible. I will never be able to convert the wonders of ice cream into words. I can’t. So I won’t even try. I’m gonna go and eat the feelings that emerged just from writing this.

BREAD
Yes bread. I know this is somewhat lame but I have this horrible habit of snacking on bread whenever I’m bored. It’s horrible and full of carbs and I don’t know how to stop. I need help. This doesn't even deserve a picture.

DIET COKE
With this one I am completely defenceless. I have basically got this stuff in with my mother’s milk. When my mum was pregnant with me she would drink this like it was some sort of ambrosia, she would just inhale it. So yes, I might get cancer but it tastes too good to put an end to it, so stop trying to make me feel guilty about it. Diet Coke and I have had a long, meaningful relationship and I have no intensions of ending it any time soon. We love each other too much.

To be completely honest, I don’t feel guilty about this at all. If you enjoy something you shouldn’t have to feel guilty about it. So what if you love taking multiple naps a day? Don’t feel guilty about something that makes you feel good. And that goes for food as well! Of course I don't eat this every day (save for the bread ... I eat that s*** all the time) but when it's available I can't help myself.
I have so many guilty pleasures beside those I have listed here but if I were to write about every single one I would never finish.

Courage,
Laura

Little Miss Tuesday

Hello there, little muffins and cupcakes!

As my dear Becca (call her Becca, she gets itchy when you call her Rebecca. She‘ll think you’re mad at her) told you yesterday, we are five girls with five days, one for each, and I am the lucky winner of Tuesday! I have no idea how to start this off properly so I’m just going to talk about myself.

My name is Laura and I am 17, going on 18 in just a month. I am a girl with a passion for cooking and being all around goofy, sarcastic, silly and having fun while simultaneously humiliating myself. Since I worry a lot about having a flawless complexion I spent a great amount of money on various beauty products and extensions to my skincare routine and of course I will also tell you all about those goodies!

Another great passion of mine is food. I absolutely adore food! One of my favourite activities is to curl up under my duvet with a cup of tea and a cooking channel on YouTube (I prefer Foodwishes and SortedFood). I love shopping for food; I love making food and I love eating food. And I’ll tell you all about my cooking adventures, so get ready for the culinary ride!

I also dance a lot. Constantly, actually.

Adding to that I am a girl with an intense love for books and I sing a lot for a person who can’t sing. Shia (you’ll meet her tomorrow) takes the prize for that one. I love the power words have over you while you read a magnificent book; the way you just get sucked into an entirely different world. I love how words can make you cry and to me, crying over a book is the ultimate sign of sympathy and passion because you’re crying over someone who doesn’t exist, someone you have made up in your mind.
Did I mention I read cookbooks as well? No? Oh well. It's a guilty pleasure of mine.
Other useful things you should know about me:
  • ·      I love cookies, ice cream, marshmellows and cuddles.
  • ·      I am a cuddlewhore.
  • ·      If you play with my hair I will turn into goo.
  • ·      The same goes for my neck.
  • ·      If you give me a backrub I will love you forever and ever.
  • ·       I love Glee, Chris Colfer and Darren Criss. Spirit animals.
  • ·      Also, unicorns.

I was once told that I am made out of unicorns, puppies and kittens, glitter and rainbows. I can stand 100% behind that description.
Welcome to the dark side (we have cookies)!
Courage,
Laura

PS Sorry for any grammar mistakes ... I suck.
